This book is the first of the series of books on CAM or alternative therapy and rehabilitation. It has broken away from the complicated literacy of the subject, long since controversial for its independent arrangement of study, scientific listing and application. Instead this is a truely technical manual and easy guide for practise of therapist progressing in physiotherapy.  It indicates the scope of application, as in rehabilitation, sports therapy, lymphatic drainage and reconstruction, acupuncture and micro-acupuncture.The book comes with SOAP (plan and record of clinical care) for each section, making it practical , clinical, sensible and predictable in its time management and progress.Low level laser has been a passion, since 1994, when I first discovered it in a Hong Kong Alma Ata seminar.  I was awarded a Ph.D for my seminar and documentation  on the frequencies of  Nogier in acupuncture and arrangement to consult with the National Hockey team. Following this I researched lasers from Hong Kong and traded in India.  It became a fascinating science. I was excited in 2001 to meet the inventors in Chennai over the ISLSM Congress. I travelled to the WALT congress in Japan, and later to the US to attend to NAALT.The technical standards of acupuncture only made a breakthrough with ISLA and Dr Michael Weber whom I was privileged to train with in blood acupuncture.I was tipped off that lasers and laser acupuncture could become the future of medicine, in its potential to reverse fatal systemic diseases and even malignancy without harmful drugs. Scientists and laser therapists worked hard to develop the scientific arena. However competition often reared its ugly head. For the great many that requested the availability of the therapy, including the Japanese corporate community in Delhi, there were many pharmaceutical and medical stakeholders that prevented any use of the system.   I had been warned that medical and alternate systems frequently clashed by Sir Anton Jayasuriya, the pioneer of acupuncture in WHO for practise outside of China..  However hard I merged with clinical practise and communities, the controls kept interfering. Corrupt and stagnant elements seemed to be located in the USA and Western countries.  Yet, my best testimonials came always from doctors, in India and overseas. The greatest one I ever knew was Jan Tuner, who took ten minutes of acupuncture in Japan before a crowd, and later became the editor of this book.Low level laser needs no quarrel. It is indisputably the best possible natural therapy. It is the main physiotherapy system that recovers the DNA and has a genetic potential for tissue recovery. This is an exceptionally poor resource if you are passionate about history. A sop to the revisionist community, the author makes himself appear foolish by inserting at every opportunity a disparaging editorial aside, or similarly meaningless commentators remark from the past, to establish his sensibilities about what transpired. Apparently, he has not heard that the best histories present the facts, not the author's aspirations for approval by a peer group through politically correct commentary.If you are looking for detailed discussion and analysis of insurgent tactics and strategies throughout history, look elsewhere. I really wanted to like this book, but, it is not a credible resource, rather it is entertainment.

I am on the fence about this book. If you are a novice, i highly recommend it. if you are advanced in your understanding of insurgency, then this is a potential desk reference and quick guide. Other books such as Robert B Asprey, War in the Shadows, Vo I and II; and Ian F.W. Beckett, Modern Insurgencies and Counter-insurgencies offer as good, if not better look at the use of terror and guerrila war.

I liked the comparison of insurgencies from ancient to modern times because the similarities are so strong. Principles are exposed by this sweeping review of the history of insurgency and lessons become obvious for our present day. So frustrating that the lessons seem to escape leaders due to their ignorance and in some cases their refusal to listen to those who understand the history and perils of such warfare. So many examples of stupidity and willful refusal to learn these lessons from both the sides of such wars. Like the poor it seems we will always have insurgency to deal with even though the means to avoid such evils are evident to anyone who knows the history of such things. Read it and weep!

Reading this book I relived the history lessons of high school and all following history books I ever read. Never ever have I met such an incredible all encompassing story to see all and understand most: full of new and astonishing facts, explanations and cleverly worded conclusions. I rate this book top of the class not only for the immense time and work that went into its making but for its completeness.

It's hard to judge the merits of this book. You won't become an expert on any particular wars that Boot describes and if you're reading critically you won't be entirely convinced of his conclusions about general rules of success and failure in fighting guerillas. How could you, when each individual description is so brief? Are these fair conclusions from Boot's more in-depth reading, or is he presenting the evidence in such a way as to bolster his thesis?I don't know. But I am glad to have been exposed to the ideas and provided with references to read more deeply. Recommended to lay readers who want a broad exposure, but don't assume Boot is telling you everything you need to know.

A mile broad and ten feet deep. Maybe that's inevitable with the breadth attempted, but it's hard to demonstrate anything but truisms when discussing literally scores of insurgencies over thousands of years. Nonetheless, there are some interesting points (notably pointing out the false dichotomy between Clausewitzian war and "Eastern" war, given that Chinese and Indian traditional war was in large formations); along with a half-hearted and unconvincing attempt to extend that observation to undercut Victor Davis Hanson's theses on the Western way of war). Also a fascinating database of insurgencies and a statistical analysis of their success over time. Also lots of interesting anecdotes. So worth reading, but perhaps not worth pondering beyond that.

What I said up there. If you can't make these surveys simpler for old people you will have to live with young, inexperienced opinions.

I ordered a book to help me learn how to use this Tablet. If it was sent digital I don't know about it and if it was that would not help me. I was very disappointed in this book. All it did was say you can do this and that with the kindle, but never explained how to do this and that.

I ordered this reference for the sole purpose of finding out how the bookmark feature works, since I am apparently unable to figure it out without help. According to the product description, there is a section in the manual about using the Kindle for reading, so I assumed that it would have the information I am looking for. I was wrong, and pretty much all the manual told me is that you can use the Kindle to read. I should have checked the reviews before I bought it. My advice is not to waste your money.
